Mecid earned his degrees at Yale University, and Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London. He is currently working towards his doctoral degree at the University of North Texas.

He appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the Bilkent Symphony, Azerbaijan National, and Presidential Symphony of Turkey. He received prizes at Remember Enescu, and Queen Sophia Charlotte violin competitions, as well as a being a two-time recipient of the Eczacibasi Award.​  ​

Mevlan resides in North Texas, and maintains a successful violin studio.
